Phuket’s award winning Italian restaurant Acqua, held the islands very first Magnum Dinner last night, 26th March 2014. Chef Alessandro Frau and the restaurants new wine sommelier Matteo picked the wines, and Chef Ales was left with the task of creating 5 special dishes that paired with the wines, the ingredients of which were specially imported just for this event.
Here’s what some of the guests, and Chef Ales had to say about this event:
– This event has been so exciting and I love wine. The reason I attended the event is because I’m a member of a wine club in Norway and I knew I would I enjoy these wines so much. The food is excellent and the service is 100%. I’ve enjoyed tonight very much indeed! Lillian
Luca Cini – I know Alessandro is a very professional guy and tonight has confirmed this. We’ve had great dishes and I think the matching of the wines was perfect. I’ve enjoyed the food, I’ve enjoyed the wines, and I’ve enjoyed the professionalism of the staff here and of course Alessandro!
– Today we’ve held this Magnum Dinner because we wanted to do something different. Every two or three months we host a wine dinner, but we change the topic. Last time we done a Super Tuscan dinner, something which has never been done in Phuket, and a Magnum Dinner has also never been done in Phuket. We really try to do something different every time. Alessandro Frau Tonight was very special because we had such a good selection of wines from Italy, the first wine was Livio Felluga Terre Alte, the second wine was Poggio Antico Brunello di Montalcino Riserva, the third was La Brancaia Il Blu IGT 2006, the fourth, which was the highlight of the evening, was Fontodi Flaccianello della Pieve, and the last wine was Allegrini Amarone della Valpolicella which pairs very well with cheeses. The menu was designed to match the wine, and the ingredients came from many areas of Italy, and they were specially imported just for this event. I think that everybody has enjoyed themselves tonight and I’m now looking forward to the next challenge for the next wine dinner.
– I have been in Kamala with my family for six years, and this dinner tonight was the best I have eaten in the whole time I have spent in Thailand. This is the best restaurant there is! I’ve known them for a long time now but the way the have made it tonight is fantastic. I come from Sweden and I’ve run hotels and restaurants but this place is just something very special! Leif Boner
