More than 400 years ago, in a place first called Junk Ceylon, then Chalang, later Thalang, and today Phuket, Premchit Prateep Na Thalang’s ancestors began trading rainforest herbs, spices, oils and woods with English merchants, including those who established the British East India Company in 1600.
And so began the known journey of her family, who has lived with nature, harvesting, trading, eating, dispensing and using rainforest plants of southern Thailand for more than 12 generations.
On the evening of Friday 26th October 2012, Premchit Prateep Na Thalang was honored to hold a Secret Na Thalang Dinner at JW Marriot Phuket Resort & Spa. The cuisine which was presented to guests was representative of the Thalang Era, and was as enjoyed by Premchit’s ancestors Thao Thep Kasatri and Thao Sri Sunthon, the Heroines of the Batle of Thalang, in 1785.
The dinner took guests on an exotic culinary journey, allowing them to travel back through time, to the cuisine of old southern Siam, to the rainforest cuisine of Premchit’s ancestors, to experience a unique symphony of the senses, sublime, surprising, satisfying and enjoyable.
