Alessandro Frau, better known on the island as proprietor of the Acqua Restaurant in Kalim, has seen a niche in the market and will shortly be opening Bocconcine Paticceria Panifico. This 800 sqm outlet will house Surin’s first Italian Pattiserrie, Delicatessen and Supermarket, selling only the highest quality produce, at reasonable prices.

Here you will be able to sit back, relax and enjoy a hot drink, an Italian style breakfast or lunchtime snack or purchase from a wide selection of Italian breads, pastries, cakes & biscuits which will be freshly baked on the premises each and every day. We’re sure with Alessandro’s reputation they will make your visit a delectable moment of Italian magic.

The Supermarket/Delicatessen
Everywhere you look there will be everything you need to pull together for the ultimate Italian feast. The products, the majority of which will be imported direct from Italy, will include olive oils, pastas, delectable cheeses and meats, sauces, pickles, tomatoes, lettuce, Italian dressing and wine.

Francesco Giordano, who was born in Abruzzo Italy, will be in charge of all operations at Bocconcina and with 30 years of experience under his belt he certainly deserves the position. Francesco, a specialist in bakery and pastry products, also has a university degree in Geology, an important issue when it comes to baking.

Francesco’s vast experience includes time at restaurants including the 3 Michelin Star Waterside Inn on the banks of the River Thames in Bray, Berkshire, and One Michelin Star La Terrazza in Rome, as well as hotels such as Four Seasons London and Le Royal Meridien Eden in Rome.

Whilst working Francesco has continued to train in baking with courses being taken at “Le Notre” Paris, “El Bulli” Spain, Institute “Etoile” Italy and Institute “Casalimenti” Italy where he learnt to bake all the traditional Italian breads including the Pane di Altamura DOP a bread specific to the Altamura area of Italy.
