Located at the rear of JW Marriott’s lobby area is the popular “Cucina” Italian Restaurant. In Italian “Cucina” translates to kitchen and this certainly reflects the mood, ambiance and design of this relaxed dining venue.
Upon entering this Italian countryside themed restaurant, we were greeted by the mouthwatering aroma of freshly cooked pizza and views of the redbrick pizza from where the aromas were being emitted. The open view kitchen allows guests to see just how hard the kitchen team works with preparing the dishes and presenting them with total perfection.
We were recently lucky enough to have been invited to Cucina to meet their recently appointed Italian Chef, Rosario Seminatore and sample some of the dishes he is about to launch on Cucina’s soon to be released new menu.
Rotolo of Mortadella
The first dish we were served was Rotolo of Mortadella filed with spinach and bechamelle sauce, topped with melted taleggio cheese and served with a aromatic sauce. The first thing that hits you when this dish is served is the strong aroma from the melted taleggio cheese; it certainly gets the taste buds going. It’s not until you cut into the dish that you get to appreciate its full ingredients, and the variety of flavours you are going to be treated to. The spinach with its slightly sour taste, thin slices of mortadella with a hint of spice and the creaminess of the bechamelle sauce, all topped off with the creamy and mellow tasting taleggio cheese. A fantastic mixture of flavours and textures and a dish I would highly recommend.
Stuffed Chicken Breast & Herb Polenta
The next dish was for me the most disappointing, chicken breast filled with buffalo mozerella and vegetables, served with herb polenta. Yes, the dish does sound like it has a lot going on, but for me it was a little bland and could have done with something a little bit extra. Perhaps it was due to the abundance of flavours from the dish before that this one seemed lacking something. Also, not being a great lover of polenta probably didn’t help with my opinion of what others may think is a tasty dish.
Potato & Pumpkin Dumplings
The final dish was another astounding flavoursome dish. Potato & pumpkin dumplings served with assorted vegetables in a light tomato sauce. The subtle but fragrant dumplings served with a colourful array of fresh, perfectly cooked vegetables and finished with a tomato sauce, with the perfect combination and mixture of herbs, a sauce I’m sure any Italian mum would be proud of. Another dish I would highly recommend visitors to Cucina try.
